Moroccan Journal
The tasty Morocco and the sophisticated France combine in the centre of old Bucharest, in the menus of the "L Harmattan" restaurant.
The decoration in orange-yellow and the Moroccan murals have opened the windows towards the desert dunes, the generosity of the Mediterranean Sea and the greatness of the Atlantic Ocean. We knew from the very beginning that this is the only place with real Moroccan food, authentic recipes, ingredients from the mother-country and owners that have “stollen” their skills from Moroccan and French chefs.

The quiet music gave as a very pleasant state of waiting, while our senses were tormented with the description of every dish - couscous, harira (soup), pastilla, tajine varieties (chicken, lamb, kefta, beef, with plums/almonds/pears/quince/lemon etc).

The name of the restaurant comes from the specific wind of the desert, which reaches every crack. L’Harmattan has dishes that you will only find in Magreb or Paris.

The spices of the explorers and the ritual of preparing the food in tajine jars (lively coloured, made of clay), make the Moroccan cuisine one of the most appreciated cuisines in the world. After a wished-for royal couscous, which can be prepared with chicken, lamb, merquez (spicy mutton sausage), beef or it can be vegetarian, we also had an oriental cake, fruits and a white wine with blackcurrant or raspberry syrup.

Because of the fact that these dishes are prepared without rush, an evening at L’Harmattan will recreate a true visit to gastronomic Morocco. As you are leaving, the last line from “Casablanca” resounds in your ears: "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship". You know for sure that you will come back to dip into other pages of Morocco.
