The capital’s centre is full of various restaurants, one more attractive than the other with regard to the menus, interiors more or less original and cooks brought from all over the world. As you drive away from Bucharest’s 0 kilometre, the restaurants that worth going out of the house grow rarer.

A good Italian restaurant in the centre of Fundeni? Si, si. We invite all those living in the area, working or just passing by to IVESPRI SICILIANI. It’s the only restaurant in Fundeni area (by the way: you can’t find another restaurant between Pantelimon and Colentina).

I don’t know whether you are familiar with the Sicilian menus or not, but you will have a clear picture of it and you will go home with more information besides flavours, tastes and sounds from Sicily.

IVESPRI SICILIANI restaurant successfully pays a tribute to the Sicilian cuisine. Sicily and its cuisine are renowned for their wines, specific pastry, pasta, vegetables and overripe fruits and of course, for the sun. Because Sicily is considered to be a coloured heaven, a rainbow of flavours wherein various influences, especially Greek and Arab, were put together.

The story of the pub in Bucharest comes from the Sicilian owner and the island’s migratory bees. The Sicilian bees (IVESPRI SICILIANI) easily adjust to any environment and in October 2008 the restaurant borrowed their name.

Extremely bright and elegant, the restaurant was conceived as a two-room space (150 seats + 30 seats), including a “showroom” for tasting the wines. As for the functionality, there are three directions, combining three different concepts - restaurant, café and club - in a limited frame.

The illumination is discreetly made through the lamps and light spots on the ceiling. The interplay of brown and cream can be found in the furniture and chromatics. Italy is ubiquitous through decorations, including in the shape of a cast iron map, and the staff has a very good command of Italian. At lunch you can hear either slow Italian music or the music preferred by the restaurant’s regular customers.

Let’s open the menu. The cookery-book is thick and divided into the following categories: antipasti (entree), pasta, soups, barbecue, fish, garnitures, salads, pizza and Sicilian desserts. In order not to diminish at all the recipes’ authenticity, many of the ingredients are ordered from Italy.

At IVESPRI SICILIANI the coffee is good and qualitative – DiLetta coffee, as famous as Lavazza. The host of the place likes to say that it is a “special” restaurant, in which you feel good and which can be compared with a culinary trip in the sunny realm of the Mediterranean cuisine.

The trip is a pleasant one, indeed, especially if we also take into account the prompt service and the balanced prices (highly seasoned forcemeat sausages – coffee – 4.5 RON, juice – 4.5 RON, steak + garniture menu – about 20 RON).

We liked among other things:
-    Lasagna – (lasagna leaves, forcemeat, tomato juice, mozzarella, parmesan)
-    Risotto ala pescatora – rice, sea fruits mixture
-    Spaghetti alla carbonara – spaghetti, bacon, pepper, parsley, wine, sour cream, parmesan, egg, onion.
-    Penne al ragu. – pasta, tomato juice with minced beef.

And, of course, Parfait di mandorle (typical dolce), a semifreddo almond dessert typical of Palermo area, with a specific delicate taste.
You can suggest the inclusion of melon ice-cream, squash with ice, typical concoctions such as trays with fish concoctions, rolls filled with prosciutto, cheese and others in the menu of an event organized at IVESPRI SICILIANI. Dionysus, the god who brought pleasure to the world and wine to Sicily, cheered up our hearts as well with the beverages from the corner dedicated to Italian wines. Don’t leave without tasting some sorts of wine!
