We step carefully and curiously into the rooms of the villa located on no. 36 Buzesti Street, which has been harbouring Casa Iorga Restaurant since April 2009. The tag from the entrance shyly informs us that the editorial office of “Semanatorul” magazine was situated in this house and that the great Nicolae Iorga lived here between 1903 and 1908.

After more than a century the house resurrects in an unexpected and interesting way in the shape of a refined restaurant which bears the name of the famous writer, historian and art critic. As a relic of the beginning of the 20th century there is a huge wardrobe which is impossible not to see at the entrance. A paintings exhibition gives a plus to the walls of the house. Month after month young painters exhibit their works which can be purchased right away.

The classic setting of a studied simplicity, in warm tones, gets along with the classic music and the jazz. You can listen to Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Marceo  Parker, step, dub. The design with an aristocratic line is brought back to present times by means of plasmas, which are fortunately included only when there are matches. During summer the visitors migrate on the terrace located behind the cast iron fence. We made a tour in order to admire the paintings exhibition inclusively and after that we quickly began an assiduous study of the menu.

Pret-a-manger? The Casa Iorga’s menu is particularly piscatorial. A combination of fish, Oriental sauces and dishes from various meridians. The hosts cleared up all the unknown aspects from the menu, disclosing the best cards of the place.

The fish, which is cooked with a lot of dressing here, is from the ocean, the specialties from the menu being rarities on the market. The fish is brought especially from Greece. The red mullet (Sultan Ibrahim fish) comes in Casa Iorga’s kitchen from Dubai.

The spices are those which give the perfect taste to each meal. Therefore at Casa Iorga the cooks use over 70 Oriental spices, from which they make some maddeningly tasty sauces.

We rewarded ourselves with dainty dishes such as stuffed dorado fish (with fine taste and strongly flavoured meat), a shellback assorted and scented with parsley, onion, garlic, caraway, soy sauce, pomegranate sauce and of course olive oil. The grilled shrimps with butter, garlic, pomegranate sauce, parsley, peppery or sweet pasta are yummy, as well as the calamary which can be optionally filled with truckle cheese / cottage-cheese / feta (Greek cheese) or rice and Mexican vegetables.

We couldn’t refrain ourselves from tasting the “salmon fillet with spinach sauce and sour cream” and a grilled menier zander served with capers, lemon, butter, garlic and natur potatoes. As regards the drinks you can choose from a wide range of Italian and Romanian wines from the most elected vines.

The chief cook has 20 years of experience at the best restaurants in the country, years which leave their mark on the preparation and presentation of the food. Those who have their office in the first sector’s area are lucky because they can have a sensational lunch with any of the Casa Iorga’s dishes.

As regards the events issue, Casa Iorga has a series of menus at will which are always ready to answer the challenge of a personalized menu for about 80 guests. If you still need a photographer, DJ, music or special arrangements you can find them on the options list. Those who come without a present for the feted person can choose a sole exemplar present directly from the paintings gallery.

With a weighty menu, a precious past and the idea of the paintings gallery, the restaurant leaves room not only for the pleasure of taste but also for enjoyment, meditation and relaxation.
